Client and Problem
Fundacja Mapa Pasji built “Questy” to make local heritage, history, and nature discoverable through play. However, they hit a massive scalability wall.
Traditional tourist trails required heavy infrastructure and maintenance budgets. Their paper quest brochures worked locally but couldn’t scale — they completely lacked tracking, gamification, and the digital appeal required to engage younger audiences.
The technical challenge was brutal: they needed a mobile application capable of working 100% offline in deep forests and remote towns, tracking GPS positions accurately without draining user battery life, and surviving massive server traffic spikes when thousands of users played simultaneously.
Solution and Key Features
Appricotsoft engineered Questy into Poland’s largest free outdoor quest application. Using React Native, we migrated their legacy system into a flawless, high-performance cross-platform experience for Android and iOS.
- Offline-First Architecture: Users download quest data before departure. The app tracks progress entirely locally in zero-signal environments and syncs seamlessly the moment connectivity returns.
- Interactive GPS Gameplay: Users follow rhyming clues guided by real-time GPS to find a physical treasure box, beautifully bridging the digital and physical worlds.
- Comprehensive Admin SaaS: We built a powerful web panel for administrators to effortlessly manage routes, issue user awards, update content, and track real-time game statistics.
Extra Value
The true engineering triumphs happened under the hood, ensuring the app performs flawlessly under extreme conditions:
- Adaptive Battery Optimization: We engineered a custom location tracking system that balances high GPS precision with ultra-low power consumption. Multi-hour expeditions no longer kill a user’s phone battery.
- Peak Load Resilience: We fortified the backend to effortlessly handle massive traffic spikes during organized quest weekends and massive school group outings with zero degradation.
- Massive Scaling: By transforming a paper-based game into a robust digital platform, we enabled the client to scale the project from just 3 initial quests to over 1,200 active trails nationwide.
